Williston 2014

The idea was that we get to Middelpos on day 1, if we could ride some new roads it would be bargain. As it turned out we did manage to do a new pass to Middelpos and this time with no technical problems.

We made good time to Clanwilliam and topping up with fuel then headed into the Tankwa, stopping in the middle of nothing for lunch and coffee.

Then we turned North and after a lovely ride up a pass we were on top of the escarpment and rode along a road that if it were to be wet it would be a handful

Day 2

We woke up to a windy and dark cloud day in Middelpos, not really cold but threatening some rain. After lovely breakfast we were on the road.

The colours was amazing and the pictures does not tell the story.

We followed a farm road with many gates to Williston

We got fuel at Williston and had some lunch then took back roads to Sutherland.

We met Abie in Sutherland for overnight stay at Kambroo Kind Guesthouse, I can honestly recommend them.and after lekker supper sat around the fireplace till late.

Day 3

It was 3deg C and the XR's to some convincing to start. Today we were doing Rammelkop to Merweville and then to Ladismith via some farms roads. Abie did very well with his big 1200 over some rocky and sandy sections.

Then we routed to Laingsburg via some farm roads en stopped at Koedoeskloof for the night. There we met some other dirt riders and had lovely meal and drinks

Day 4

We took a scenic ride to Caltizdorp, going past Abie's childhood stomping grounds, then took 7 Weekspoort and the Rooiberg passes. Absolutely awesome countryside.

Rooiberg pass is a must and they just fixed it, doable with no problem.

We then got to a gate that was locked into a Game Farm. We found a alternate route to another gate and then proceeded through the Game Farm.

Time for some lunch

Eventually in De Doorns, Both Ant and myself were on reserve. Fuelled and then had excellent braai at Abie's place. Thanks for hospitality. Helene makes fantastic low carb veggies.

Day 5 we woke up to gale force wind and rain clouds. We changed our route plan a bit and stuck to bigger gravel roads. Rode all the way to home in the rain. At least we know our kit works in wet weather.

Coffee break in Wellington

At the end of the trip we did manage to ride some new roads. We did check out some of our kit and will change configurations. We know a EO9 rear can handle 0.3bar for a whole day. We found new places that we will return to.

Another successful Ride I would say
